Malfunction of A220 W176 Exhaust Flap Actuator! May I exit?

Greetings to everybody,

Any information would be much appreciated! 🙏
I own a 2014 A220 with a code for Exhaust Flap Actuator Malfunction.


I essentially want to eliminate it. I have reached my limit! (laughs) I have acquired an Exhaust Valve Delete Connector Terminator Removal tool.

I have many enquiries:

• If I remove the actuator, replace it with a straight segment of tubing, and connect the plugs? Consider using a reader to erase any codes once again.

• Will this remedy the issue of the flap malfunction?

• Are there any advantages or disadvantages to doing this? Concerned that it will not operate correctly (it already does not function properly due to this problem) or that fuel efficiency may be significantly compromised after this action.

• I have heard that the noise may be impacted or amplified, but it will certainly not get excessively louder or like the sound of a bag of trousers thereafter.

• Is the flap a crucial component that I should avoid altering? Will it impact M.O.T. assessments?

What is the diameter of the exhaust pipe if this can be accomplished? I need a straight section of pipe, maybe flared at both ends, for welding purposes.

I hope someone here has had a similar experience or has relevant knowledge. Any assistance with my enquiries or more information would be much appreciated. I anticipate that once doing this, I will once again get pleasure from driving my automobile.

Consequently, the item you purchased will be incompatible with your vehicle. The component you have purchased is intended to eliminate the flap that attenuates the exhaust on AMG petrol versions.
The exhaust flap on your diesel serves a distinct function. The purpose is to seal the exhaust outlet and recycle the exhaust as a component of the EGR system. The vehicle will not operate properly without the flap. If the flap is defective, the only remedy is to install a replacement. I am not an authority in remapping, however it may be feasible to eliminate the EGR functionality with a remap. I do not endorse such approach, since it is likely to be more costly than replacing the flap.

I want further specifics on what was substituted. The flap is maintained in an open position by a spring and closed by the motor. The open and closed positions are quantified and sent to the ECU. If the completely open or fully closed positions are not attained, a fault is recorded. Replacing the motor is feasible; however, if the issue pertains to the flap being obstructed inside the pipe, it is likely to malfunction again in the future. The flap pipe is a substantial and costly component from Mercedes. I speculate if the garage has just changed the motor.
Aftermarket components are obtainable that have the motor and flap integrated on a tiny section of pipe, allowing for the original to be cut and sleeved accordingly.
