nimbuye5
Greetings, everybody. I am experiencing two issues with the lights on my E39. They may or may not be connected. The first issue is that my turn signals flash every 5-7 seconds without any corresponding indicator on the dashboard; there are no arrows or clicking sounds. The second issue pertains to the majority of the lights, including headlights, turn signals, dashboard, and danger switch lighting. The lights flicker irrespective of the engine's operational status (I presume the alternator). Notably, as I rotate the wheel to decrease the dashboard light, the flicker becomes more pronounced and slower. The mechanics I consulted exhibited a lack of confidence, with one suggesting that I resolve the issue independently. I attempted to unhook each bulb individually, but that was not the issue. Kindly assist.
QuirkyPixel
The E39 has a light control module (LCM). I recommend obtaining BMW diagnostics to check for error codes. If necessary, a functional used module will be needed, which must also be programmed to the vehicle.
nimbuye5
Thank you for your response. I used INPA to decode the codes, but no pertinent information emerged. I should consider acquiring a pre-owned LCM for testing purposes.
QuirkyPixel
I would first examine the LCM connections and wiring.
nimbuye5
Do you intend to clean the contacts?
QuirkyPixel
Indeed, but also monitor for burning sensations.
