EtherealWanderer
A warning appeared on the dashboard yesterday and this morning stating, 'Engine started to clean system; EV mode unavailable.' What is the true significance of this? I presume that because most of our driving occurs in electric vehicle mode, it may sometimes need to operate on fuel. What is the duration or distance required for the vehicle to revert to EV mode?

Rudy7831
Refer to page 89 of the handbook. If "Engine Started to Clean System EV Driving Unavailable" appears on the multi-information display, EV driving may be suspended to safeguard the hybrid system, among other reasons. In this instance, operate the vehicle using the petrol engine until the electric vehicle mode reactivates automatically. Under some conditions, the operation of the petrol engine may persist briefly. However, this is not a malfunction. This is applicable just to the 2024 PHEV.
Rudy7831
Out of curiosity, how many miles have you travelled since the last use of the engine prior to the alert appearing?
EtherealWanderer
Thank you for your assistance; I reviewed the instructions and found no relevant information until your response! I typically use the vehicle daily, but each trip lasts about 10 to 15 minutes. This morning, I drove for thirty minutes to circulate petrol through the engine and did not get the notification again on my commute home from work this evening; nonetheless, the vehicle continues to operate on gasoline rather than electric power, and the battery is at 99% capacity. A fan sign is visible above the battery level indication on the dashboard, although I cannot recall whether it has always been there. Will it resolve itself after a couple extended trips? CelestialSeeker
The battery cover in the rear seat is not concealed, is it?
EtherealWanderer
I am uncertain of your meaning, however there is nothing present in the rear seat or footwells.
CelestialSeeker
The hybrid battery is located behind the rear seat, and there is a filter on the side that, if obstructed, may lead to battery overheating and deactivate the EV mode. This issue is noted in the handbook about non-starting EV mode; however, it seems you may have a different problem.
SD1too
I believe this is a second-generation C-HR PHEV model, and if I recall correctly, the traction battery is positioned underneath the car.
Rudy7831
I believe there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. It was executing a function to operate the engine, which had apparently not been activated for some time. Tania seems to have only undertaken short trips with the EV mode. The PHEV will operate in EV mode until the standard use capacity is depleted (about 40 miles), after which it will utilise the battery reserve (roughly 3 miles) to function similarly to previous CHR HEVs, with the petrol engine activating and deactivating as needed. I saw that the engine activates for warming with around 6 kilometres remaining. It is reassuring to know that the vehicle will "clean" the engine if it has not been used for an extended period while operating only in electric vehicle mode. I am certain it is unrelated to the seat vent.
EtherealWanderer
Thank you for your informative responses; it seems to be only a standard procedure. It was unhelpful that the dealership was unaware of its significance when we reached out.
norbury.brook
No fresh developments exist. Most dealers possess less knowledge than individuals on specialised forums.
SD1too
One would expect an individual at the dealership to approach a technician who participated in the product training course for the repair of a C-HR PHEV.
