BENZE220AMG
Hello, I have purchased a 2007 GL420 (X164) that has just failed its MOT due to a leak in the rear shock absorber. The vehicle has adjustable ride height; but, when I input the registration into internet retailers, I see options that include shocks with a side box and others that differ significantly in price. BENZE220AMG
I am enquiring about the function of the additional component, and considering that retailers assert both options are compatible with the vehicle, what would be the drawbacks of installing the variant that lacks this extra part? The vehicle now has the supplementary component; nevertheless, if it is not essential, I would substitute both with the more economical combination. I presume it regulates the adjustable ride height, which I would not be very concerned about, given I do not want to engage in off-roading activities. Any assistance would be welcomed, and I apologise for the lack of technical detail; therefore the provided links!
ENVIOclev
The system does not regulate ride height; it is designed for active damping, whereby the solenoid adjusts the suspension stiffness based on the control setting. The air suspension system regulates ride height. It pertains not to off-roading, but to calibrating the damper properties for on-road driving. BENZE220AMG
Would there be a significant difference in switching to shocks without this component? Thank you one again.
ENVIOclev
The top mountings of the dampers you referenced are entirely different, irrespective of their functional aspects.
