CX-90 PHEV and drivetrain grinding from first to second gear

Recommended Posts

Has anybody with this problem ever resolved it? I believed one member had a new transmission installed. Curious whether it resolved the issue. My vehicle is a 2024 model; does anybody with a 2025 model have the same issue?

I am enduring it, although I want its cessation. I have received all the information about the trans, etc., however it seems to be deteriorating somewhat. I doubt I could sell it in this condition; it seems the transmission is likely to fail soon.

Kindly share if someone has successfully resolved the transmission "crunch."

Indeed, I saw it previously. However, I concur with others who question the rationale of an engineer who builds a transmission that produces a crunching sound and deems it "normal." No information is available to me. Who would purchase this from me if they experienced that noise during a test drive and I informed them it was normal? I doubt anybody would.

Continuing to depend on corporate Mazda to provide a solution for everyone.

I understand. Yesterday, my wife accompanied me and experienced "the crunch" for the first time. She inquired, "What was that?" and I clarified that the automobile was functioning properly and that it was only a noise produced by the vehicle.
Subsequently, she made a disparaging remark on the cheap impression it imparts to the automobile.

I have had a mostly affectionate, albeit sometimes resentful, connection with my wife with my CX-90. She assisted me in deciding to get my Mazda instead of an Acura or Telluride. Upon learning about the Acura's fuel efficiency, she expressed dissatisfaction. As I was focusing on the Telluride, she said that the CX-90 was more aesthetically pleasing and distinctive in comparison to the Telluride. She said that the CX-90 had a resemblance to a BMW and seemed to be a car suited for an individual who has "accomplished something in life."

Nonetheless, I had previously mocked her incessantly on the many problems we had with her former 2014 Grand Cherokee, and when we acquired her 2019 Jeep, I ensured the purchase of an extended warranty. However, her 2019 Grand Cherokee has been mostly trouble-free, but my CX-90 has required far more visits to the repair shop, and for longer durations, compared to her previous 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, despite the difficulties with the CX-90 being less serious.

It has been unenjoyable to endure her criticisms on my CX-90 PHEV during the last two years. Nonetheless, she appreciates my somewhat seldom visits to the petrol station.😁

I concur with the original poster that the transmission performance seems to be deteriorating.

Further undermining my own hypothesis on the potential normalcy of the noise (electronic valve pump for the 1-2 gear transition).

In recent weeks, the gearbox in EV mode has caused the whole car to tremble and jitter while accelerating gently from a complete stop.

It also occurs while decelerating gently to a halt.

This occurs around 20% of the time (1 in 5).

It resembles a novice manual transmission driver hesitating on the clutch pedal. Extremely crude.
