johnnyb44
Greetings, I need assistance from all of you. I own a 2004 SL350 3.7, and the battery control module (BCM) was entirely damaged. I purchased a high-quality replacement from eBay, which successfully resolved the issue of the battery not charging and eliminated any warning lights on the dashboard. I am very satisfied with this solution, despite the cost of almost £1050. Currently, I am facing a new issue with the roof, as indicated by the fault code B1057-000. Additionally, another fault code B1018 suggests a disruption in the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication from the RCP control unit. The electronic roof control module is absent. The issue at hand is the absence of control 30 for the electronics in the second code, as well as the presence of a symbol on the car's dashboard indicating a malfunction with the roof opening mechanism. I am in need of assistance as I have already spent a significant amount of money on repairs and am unsure of where to begin troubleshooting. Is there a relay fuse control module that might be causing the problem, and if so, does anybody know its location? I have deleted codes that disappear, but as soon as I turn on the ignition or start the vehicle, they reappear. I appreciate any information you can provide on this matter. Thank you in advance
BENZE220AMG
Although I am uncertain about this specific matter, I am aware that when replacing components, it is necessary to use the STAR system to reset or acknowledge the modifications. However, I myself do not do these tasks since they are handled by my independent technician.
KWILB
Control 30 may refer to circuit 30, which is a circuit that has a constant supply of electricity. This circuit might be connected to a module, thus it would be advisable to inspect the fuses.
xsports
Definitely check the fuses. The ones located behind the driver's seat.
johnnyb44
Understood Discovered the box located behind the driver's seat and proceeded to inspect its contents. The inside seems to be in satisfactory condition, with no discernible odour of burned substances. Conducted a thorough examination of all fuses, which appear to be functioning properly. However, despite these efforts, I am still seeking suggestions or ideas to resolve the issue at hand. I am able to eliminate the issue, but as soon as I start the system, the errors reappear. There are two relays visible in the fourth picture. Does anybody know the purpose of these relays? Thank you
xsports
It requires accurate diagnostics using a Star machine and a somebody who is knowledgeable about roof systems. It is a game of guessing without that.
BENZE220AMG
I completely agree with my approach, as it significantly reduces the amount of time required. Additionally, there is a possibility of inadvertently causing harm or impairing another component while doing the task. Every Mercedes-Benz expert will have access to the STAR diagnostic system. johnnyb44
Thank you for your assistance. I will need to locate someone with a star diagnostic tool who can come to my location, since the vehicle currently lacks a valid MOT, tax, and insurance. Kind regards. johnnyb44
Consideration... The diagnostic scanner available at my local garage, which is a snap-on brand, is capable of performing the same functions as the star diagnostic system. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate any local service providers that can scan my electronic control unit (ECU).
johnnyb44
I am currently facing significant difficulties with my car. I greatly appreciate the valuable advice you have provided thus far. The issue at hand is that my car's roof requires resetting, as suggested by your team. This can be accomplished through the use of a diagnostic tool known as "stars." Unfortunately, I am unable to utilise my car or transport it elsewhere until this matter is resolved. I am wondering if there are alternative scanners available for purchase that can enable me to reset the roof on my own. The scanner I purchased, seen in picture 1, seems to have extensive capabilities. It includes a Benz adapter, a vehicle connection module, and several leads. Before investing in a new roof module, I need to understand its functionality. It is possible that a simple reset of the Body Control Module (BCM) may be sufficient, as indicated by the successful resolution of the battery light issue. Based on my deduction, I believe that this issue is a result of the disconnection of the components and the subsequent damage to the BCM. Does anybody know whether the iCarsoft Scanner can fix roof issues? Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you.
ENVIOclev
I anticipate that you will expend time and financial resources without successfully resolving the issue. I recommend considering the option of transporting the automobile to a nearby independent Mercedes-Benz specialist who has the necessary diagnostic tool called Star. If you have access to someone who can assist you with this, it might potentially be a more cost-effective solution. Alternatively, consider reaching out to nearby automotive electricians and inquire about their expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues related to an SL roof. NAVITEL
You are now located in Telford... If the expenses of trailering to an independent mechanic, such as MSL, outweigh the higher charges of the local Mercedes-Benz dealer, then it may be more beneficial to choose the latter. Do you have homestart breakdown insurance that covers this?
johnnyb44
Unfortunately, my SL has been in storage for little more than a year. During this time, I kept the charger connected to a handy battery to prevent it from losing charge. However, I suspect that the booster starter was inadvertently turned on, which led to the malfunction and damage of the BCM.The BCM has been replaced, but several issues persist. The vehicle starts and drives well, but the roof does not open and the boot does not work. The roll bar is also not functioning, and the remote fob is not working. Additionally, there is no insurance, tax or MOT for the vehicle. It has been in the garage for four months, and the Ford Edge has proven difficult to repair. Ford is unaware of a solution, so I am left with the task of getting my SL back on the road. My Foxwell diagnostic scanner is a very advanced GT65 scanner that is capable of resetting the roof. johnnyb44
I would like to express my gratitude for the information you provided regarding my sl350. However, I have decided to dismantle the vehicle and sell its parts. The reason for this decision is that I have spent a significant amount of money on repairs, particularly on an expensive BCM box that is still in excellent condition and under warranty. After consulting with experts using the stars system, it has been determined that there is no need to reset anything with this particular component. The only requirement is to erase the codes and proceed accordingly. Unfortunately, the roof module is now malfunctioning, which has further contributed to the financial burden of maintaining this vehicle. It is regrettable that despite recently replacing the rear springs, installing a new BCM, and various other parts, the car continues to experience one problem after another. BENZE220AMG
It is really a significant disappointment, and I can imagine that you must be feeling rather awful. Consider promoting the automobile by highlighting its current problems and exploring the possibility of finding someone interested in salvaging it. The item must have value if the remaining parts are in excellent condition. You may be left with all the desirable components removed and just the remaining parts to discard... johnnyb44
Indeed, I am quite disappointed. The vehicle is truly exquisite, with a powerful 3.7-liter engine and delivering an exceptional driving experience. It is regrettable that it runs on LPG, but overall, these cars are truly remarkable. I have recently replaced the rear springs, as well as the convenience batteries and the BCM. Additionally, I have replaced the left-hand rear ABS wheel sensor and a few other items. I will first attempt to do this job as a preliminary task for someone who may perhaps be interested. Nonetheless, I really appreciate all the information. when the roof functioned
