Online account for the Driver and Vehicles Licencing Agency (DVLA)

Recommended Posts

I am uncertain about the exact date of introduction of them, but I believe they are rather recent. I recently navigated the government website to establish my account, and the process was quite seamless. The website requested the standard government information for verification purposes, such as passport number and driving licence number. Consequently, I was able to promptly create and activate my account. Subsequently, I attempted to include my automobile in the account, but it was not accepted. The DVLA Driver and Vehicles account requires users to provide their complete names, which must match their official ID. However, my V5C document only has my first name and surname. As a result, the account experiences technical issues and does not accept my document.

To resolve this issue, I contacted the customer services department. They informed me that the solution is to send my V5C document to the DVLA, with Section 3 filled out with my complete name. Additionally, I should include a covering letter clarifying my identity and explaining the need to update the V5C to match my customer account name. Subsequently, they will dispatch a fresh V5C document to me, which is expected to take around 4 weeks to complete. Once I have the new V5C, I will be able to log in and register my car.

It is important to note that the new online accounts need complete names to be provided on the V5C.

The platform is designed to facilitate the management of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), driver records for vehicle rental, and MoT status. The developers have said that further features would be added in the future.

That is peculiar and differs from my own observations.

I established my DVLA Driver and cars account a while back and effectively registered my two cars on it. One of the vehicles is listed on the V5C document with simply my first name and surname, while the second vehicle has my first name, middle name, and surname. Both my passport and driving licence have my first name, middle name, and surname.

I undertook the procedure of rectifying the error on my automobile's V5C document, since the dealer who sold me the car had misspelt my first name and neglected to include my middle name. I completed Section 3 as required and sent it to the DVLA without included a cover letter. Section 3 of the form is explicitly designated for communicating a change of name and/or address.

Approximately two weeks later, I got the revised V5C document which now had my middle name, but unfortunately still included the incorrect spelling of my first name. How frustrating!

I contacted the DVLA and had a conversation with a quite cooperative woman who agreed to rectify the misspelling and provide a new V5C document. She instructed me to discard the wrong item upon receiving the re-issued one, which came three days later.

Thank you. It is somewhat peculiar, considering the customer support representative I conversed with explicitly said that the discrepancy in names was the reason for the inability to include the vehicle. It is possible that they have made enhancements to the system since you established yours!
