DMGRS
I just acquired a pre-owned 2013 B8.5 S5 equipped with the 3.0T engine, and I am really pleased. The previous owner has completed all necessary engine modifications, and I need your insights. I previously possessed a catted straight-piped B8 S5 equipped with a V8 engine and appreciated its auditory characteristics. Naturally, I did not anticipate the V8 timbre; however, I assumed that with the FBO Stage 2+ APR, test pipes, and various modifications, this vehicle would produce some degree of crackle, burble, pop, or feedback. Unfortunately, there is none due to the Borla cat-back exhaust, which includes mufflers and, I believe, resonators. I like the sound of burbling and am enquiring about potential actions I should take. A - remove the silencer from the Borla exhaust and anticipate achieving the desired outcome. Transition from the APR stage 2+ tune to the 034 tune, since both Jackal and APR lack crackling characteristics in their configurations. Thank you, everyone! paulh2602601
Similar to the artificial exhaust sound produced by the electronic bulkhead "soundaktor," Audi included the "pops" into the original equipment ECU map's ignition settings. Most tuners often do not contain this as standard; thus, you will want a fresh map that incorporates the desired sounds.
DMGRS
Are you suggesting that we change the music to someone else's selection?
MDMH757
Most tuners include additional options for their maps, although switching is not mandatory. 🙂 My S5 did not produce pops and fringe, however it performed quite well!
DMGRS
I really like the S5; nonetheless, I am particularly fond of auditory experiences and relish everyday driving accompanied by pops and burbles. APR unfortunately lacks a map for burbles and has not included it into any of its tunes for the S5.
Ken_Lion
I cannot assure you will get the desired burbles; nevertheless, I can confirm that the front resonators on the 4.2 S5 eliminate the appealing noises that vehicle aficionados cherish. Pops, snaps, and dramatic downshifts, etc. I used a straight pipe configuration for almost 18 months on the 4.2 S5, using bespoke silencers in place of the tiny resonators to mitigate noise while preserving desirable acoustic qualities. The resonator deletion may be the solution for the 3.0 to get an unrefined sound. Initially, when I acquired my S5, it was equipped with Miltek back boxes and a H pipe, which I found to be sonically displeasing compared to a straight pipe. Furthermore, these aftermarket exhausts do not provide enough feedback relative to their cost.
DMGRS
I appreciate your response; I believe you are correct. Recently, when doing an oil change, I briefly inspected the vehicle and saw what seems to be an exhaust system consisting of an X-pipe and Borla mufflers. I did not notice a resonator, but my examination was not thorough. I am considering transitioning to a 034 or JHM tune to get launch control and crackles, since APR lacks these features.
