Updating Sirius XM

Recommended Posts

An over-the-air update was sent to my 2025 Tucson Limited yesterday. All was well. A little riddle has emerged for me. It's not a terrible mystery, but it is a mystery. For the most part, I tune in to SiriusXM. Whenever I entered my garage in the past, the signal would suddenly go out. While you're in the garage, SiriusXM keeps playing. How on earth is this possible?
Among other things, I have thought about:
1. My Sirius XM receiver became more sensitive after the update.
2. A new satellite has been launched by Sirius XM, and I can now "see" it (my garage door faces northwest). Compared to its predecessors, this new satellite may be located further north.
3. I had no idea my receiver had switched to cell phone internet. Since my home has a very weak cell signal, this seems highly improbable.
4. As soon as I enter my garage, my receiver will switch to wifi. Could it be done?

In any case, I would greatly value your advice.

It is my assumption that your radio now has Sirius XM 360L as a result of the update. This is the most recent update that combines streaming media with satellite radio on one convenient platform. Radio World reports that Hyundai and Genesis will be carrying the SiriusXM 360L.

This could be an upgrade or a downgrade; I'm not sure.
Engine starts, music begins. On the radio, it's coming from my phone. I was unable to switch stations. After tapping the Media button, everything was fine—well, almost. My phone is still playing the first station.

As far as I'm concerned, the radio belongs in the car and my phone stays in my pocket.

The answer from  seems plausible. 360L was new to me.

Unfortunately, though.

Some notes on 360L from Google and AI are here.

Hybrid Content Delivery: Uses Both the Onboard Internet Connection and Regular Satellite Signals

You can't manually make a factory 360L unit stream online when there's a strong satellite signal, according to Reddit consensus. Instead, you have to rely on internet streaming for on-demand content or when the satellite signal goes down.

I'm going to presume that you have a plan for a mobile hotspot in your vehicle.

The main issue is that using a satellite connection results in extremely poor sound quality. The signal has to traverse large portions of the nation while being extremely compressed and having travelled 22,500 miles from the satellite. The audio quality is greatly improved when you use the SiriusXM mobile app in conjunction with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to stream the SiriusXM channel. (When you pull into your garage, you may even hear the difference in sound quality thanks to 360L.)

I suggest making the switch to streaming full time on the SiriusXM 360L car app since it defaults to satellite.

Just a quick aside - SiriusXM keeps their pricing plan a secret. The "Music & Entertainment Advantage 25" package, which covers both streaming and satellite, costs $120 per year.
