paulh2602601
Inquisitive inquiry... If you have configured your phone as a key and own the emergency physical key, presuming you are indifferent to the extra features it provides, is there any need to carry the bulky fob with you? I would like not to carry the huge fob if it were unnecessary. I saw in the handbook a mention of a credit card key, which I presume must be accessible somewhere globally. Enquire if it is feasible to get one locally. I believe it is too naive to assume that a readily accessible NFC tag might function as an ad hoc key. I used the phone as the primary key for my prior Tesla and carried the credit card key as a contingency.
Needsnewtyres2
The disadvantage of that method is that if the 12v system malfunctions, entry to the vehicle is denied; nevertheless, with the fob, one may use the metal key to enter the automobile. Not all contemporary technology is advantageous.
paulh2602601
I would carry the physical key, but not the separate fob. I question if the metal key is intentionally distinct from the fob to enable the use of the phone instead.
Starcar2022
The one rationale I can conceive for their actions is that carrying both the fob and the separate key is more cumbersome than the previous fobs that included the key.
nicebubby8
I carry the actual key with me, since it is sufficiently compact to fit into the back of my wallet.
trikey
If you have unlocked your EV3 using the emergency key due to your phone's battery depletion and lack of the fob, can you position your non-functional phone on the induction pad underneath the wireless phone charger to start the vehicle, similar to the functionality with the key fob? paulh2602601
Frankly, I am uncertain; during the years I have used my phone as the main key for my vehicle, I have never faced that situation. I like the concept of a backup and would prefer if Kia offered the credit card-sized key card option in the U.K. instead of necessitating the use of the bulky fob for a backup. colinallcars
I was informed in an EV3 UK group that the key card is unavailable in the UK. I am now perplexed.
paulh2602601
It is now unavailable; I was expressing a desire for it to be offered as an option. I apologise if I failed to clarify that.
trikey
I believe I will need to do experiments with this when I get my EV3. I doubt the reliability of the digital key on the phone if a non-functional phone cannot start the vehicle. On some days, I approach depleting my phone's battery, so I use my trip home to recharge it.
colinallcars
New automobile... It is time for a new phone as well. 😉
paulh2602601
If one carries the actual emergency key, it may be feasible to keep a small power bank in the vehicle. In the event that an individual returns to their vehicle with a non-functional phone and no key fob, they may physically unlock the door with a metal key and use a power bank to recharge the phone for driving purposes. This has a little resemblance to a problem associated with the Tesla Model 3. If the 12V battery malfunctions, access to the frunk to charge or replace the battery is obstructed. The solution included storing a compact 12V A23 battery under the front bumper, concealed below the panel for the towing eye, where many leads were accessible to use with the A23 to open the frunk.
