Utilising Apple Play and Google Maps from my mobile device

Recommended Posts

I own an OPPO A16 smartphone equipped with Google Maps.
I own a USB cable that connects the phone to the USB port on the dashboard.
Must I have mobile data enabled to see the newest maps and receive real-time information?

Using mobile data over the whole of the journey would incur costs, however the exact amount is unknown. How can I put Google Maps on my screen?
I launch Google Maps and then proceed.
This may be obvious to many, but I have never seen this option previously, and I lack technical expertise.
Thank you.

There are two options for linking your phone to the GPS system. First, activate tethering on your phone and connect the vehicle to the phone's hotspot. The vehicle will thereafter use the phone's data to provide real-time services, such as traffic updates and local fuel pricing. Utilising a USB connection enables access to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, along with its associated functionalities, like mapping and navigation. Many members like using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay for navigation and music streaming.

Thank you for your response. Before I pose a question, please be aware that I lack proficiency in technology. My question is, when I connected the phone to the satnav using the USB cable, I noticed "Auto" appeared, but I did not proceed further. If I configure it and activate it at my residence, where I have internet/Wi-Fi, will it continue to function while I am driving away, given that I lack internet access unless I enable mobile data?

The expense of mobile data is minimal; I often use it for navigation and Spotify on 500-mile round journeys, incurring just a few cents. Downloading films or similar content incurs much higher mobile expenses.

I am unaware of the exact charges; however, my PAYG contract rates are 3p, 2p, and 1p. Nevertheless, while using mobile data for checking email or WhatsApp, it seems to incur a minimum charge of 35p, even if used for about a minute.

Mobile data must be enabled to continue receiving satellite navigation updates. Your house WiFi has a restricted range, and you will rapidly lose connectivity as you go. In addition to mobile data, it is necessary to activate the mobile hotspot and connect your phone to the vehicle.

The likely reason is because PAYG is far more costly than a contract. I pay £6 per month to Sky for 2GB of data and unlimited calls and messages.

I possess the maps application on my phone and understand that if I initiate a route from my residence and thereafter go to my vehicle, it will continue to function without internet connectivity; nevertheless, it will not provide traffic updates or information on potential accidents.
