neilrr010
I was wondering if someone could tell me whether this is a big issue or if it can be rectified. Is there really no cause for alarm? The service records, recent MOT, etc., from the local dealer make no mention of this. I'd want my B200turbo to endure forever.
diablos_carcv5
Not sure about the B, but it doesn't seem like there should be water there; there appears to be a leak in the plastic scuttle; maybe a clogged drain? First, I'd have to look into it. I recommend using Dinitrol RC900 after a thorough cleaning of the rust that avoids hurting the paint. This just turns the rust black and seals it, and it dries clear. The environment might be concealed if desired.
neilrr010
So, it's not a structural issue?
torque2me
The shop will need to examine the seam after you remove the seam filler material. It's possible that the filler is masking an underlying issue.
neilrr010
Appreciate your response. Is the rust a fixable problem, since I really like driving this vehicle. That is, would it be possible to fix it?
torque2me
It's probably repairable, but we can't know for sure since it's covered up. In any case, you should take off the joint seal to let the seam air out. The seal is failing because water is seeping beneath it and damaging the seam. neilrr010
I appreciate the help. Water seems to be collecting in what should be a scuttle next to the windshield. I did some preliminary testing using a hose. Can you drive it without that weld? Checkup for this week is planned, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that it won't be too expensive to correct. paulh2602601
It seems like the filler used to cover up the hole or damage in the photo was done by hand. Is it identical to the other side of the engine compartment?
neilrr010
There's less rust, but the filler's still the same.
norbury.brook
Has the vehicle been in an accident and repaired? What does the left side of the shock fixing plate's imprinted numerals mean?
neilrr010
It's a 06 b200 turbo, so it might have been in a wreck somewhere in the previous 17 years, but it's got new shocks and springs and plenty of other parts throughout the years. The plates on my second, newer B-class automobile contain numbers.
norbury.brook
my best wishes, and may things soon settle down.
