allmightyASTON
Greetings, gentlemen. I may be exhibiting signs of paranoia, but I would like your judgement on the level of smoothness shown during gear shifts. I am often apprehensive of new cars due to my heightened sensitivity to even little sounds, which might lead me to suspect that there may be a mechanical issue. The user's text consists of a laughing face emoji. I own a 2014 S5 equipped with the 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG). The upshifts in all modes are rapid, reactive, and seamless. When I use sport mode, downshifts become much more perceptible and sometimes abrupt, particularly at lower velocities. Should the downshifts in sport mode be impeccably smooth or is it normal to have little jerkiness? The vehicle just had a comprehensive gearbox maintenance, including a software upgrade to the most recent version. It did not get a gearbox tuning. 1. Do these gearboxes possess the ability to learn? 2. Is it expected for the downshifts to be very smooth?
johnmayerrr
What is the distance travelled? The gearbox requires maintenance every 38,000 km.Has it skipped a scheduled maintenance? There is a learning mode that I feel adjusts the clutch packs to their optimal settings. However, I was under the impression that doing such a task was not necessary after an oil change. I had my vehicle repaired last year, and it did not have any impact on the gear shifts.
allmightyASTON
The vehicle had a gearbox maintenance procedure at 38,000 km at an Audi dealership. I have just completed another task, which brings the total to 62,000 with the purpose of ensuring peace of mind.
Gianni682
Your description seems to be accurate. The primary purpose of sport mode is to enable greater engine revolutions, resulting in enhanced torque and power in comparison to driving mode. The engine revolutions need to decrease more in order to match the new gear, thus the Gearbox Control Unit (TCU) permits a little increase in jerkiness to prevent any delays in the gear changes. allmightyASTON
It is probable that I am being too suspicious, therefore I appreciate you providing a sanity check.
CyberMage
If your vehicle is equipped with the original Engine Control Unit (ECU) and Gearbox Control Unit (TCU) mapping, you may consider examining TVS Engineering's "Driveability" TCU mapping. This mapping is designed to enhance the smoothness of gear changing. For more information, please visit their website. CyberMage
I own a TVS Stage 2+ Gearbox Control Unit (TCU) configuration in conjunction with my MRC Stage 2 Engine Control Unit (ECU) configuration. The improvement is noteworthy.
allmightyASTON
Interestingly, I had a conversation today with someone who was enthusiastically praising TVS. Are you located in the southern region of England? I am interested in participating in an MRC stage 2 and TVS map to get firsthand knowledge, since I am considering following that path.
