NevoBMW320i
I need assistance with my BMW 118d M Sport 2011. Initially, the DPF light was on and blocked, attempted regeneration failed. Subsequently, the engine management light illuminated, accompanied by excessive black soot under the bonnet on the driver's side. Error codes indicated issues with two glow plugs. The DPF has been manually cleared, resulting in increased power. However, the engine management light persists, and the car accelerates to around 3000 revs before experiencing pullback and emitting significant white smoke. I have tried the glow plugs, the actuator, and removed the exhaust, but the issue persists. Could this be related to the intercooler or a problem with the turbo? EGFR has also been examined. Any assistance would be welcomed as I am eager to get my son back.
WanderlustGuru
Add diesel particulate filter cleaner to the tank, take an extended drive to test its effectiveness, and ensure you have thorough diagnostic testing.
migueldosantos77
You said "manually cleared," could you clarify its meaning? It seems to be blocked. Consider using a diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaner in the tank, but don't expect certain results.
NevoBMW320i
After two applications of DPF cleaner and cleaning it out with a pressure washer, would it be advisable to remove the DPF altogether? My previous Audi had a diesel particulate filter (dpf) issue that could be resolved by a regeneration process. However, the regeneration process did not work for my BMW, and I suspect a possible blockage as the performance is fine until 3000 revs. I am concerned about having to replace the turbo if the issue is not related to it. Thank you for your responses.
WanderlustGuru
If the vehicle's diagnostic codes have not been identified, it is likely that difficulties such as low coolant temperature and EGR problems are preventing a regeneration process, especially after short journeys without extended driving. It is crucial to have the vehicle's statistics reviewed and examined to address these concerns.
migueldosantos77
Do you often engage in short runs? Furthermore, as WanderlustGuru said, what about thermostats?
NevoBMW320i
I have not replaced the thermostats yet. I am a community nurse and understand the drawbacks of diesel cars, but I have a preference for them. Thank you for your assistance.
NAVITEL
The statistics consistently malfunction, causing the automobile to cool down and interrupt the regeneration process. Check the hidden menu to monitor the temperature, and if it remains below 80 degrees, adjust the settings. Cost-effective task. Do you own a code reader to check for any DPF failure codes? Once the vehicle reaches the appropriate temperature, drive it steadily at about 65 mph and continue to clear the error codes until the regeneration process begins. Good luck since dealing with difficulties like these may be challenging. Cheers
migueldosantos77
My wife only goes for short runs. What I do is take it once a month when I visit my sister, put it in sport mode, increase the revs to 3k, and then click the cruise button. I only get a mileage of around 12 miles on the dual carriageway, but it seems to effectively maintain the diesel particulate filter (DPF) free. You don't need to travel far, just heat it up. Forgot to mention that it is hot before I enter the dual road.
migueldosantos77
Verify the statistics before proceeding. Also forgot that part.
vitessear3
The car will not undergo regeneration until the fault codes are cleared.
