Substitute Tires?

I am now changing the tires on my 2024 CX-90. My choice is between the Michelin CC2s or the Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractives. Nonetheless, in both instances, our local dealer advises that they do not adhere to OEM requirements. They instead propose a tyre that I do not want. We reside in Minnesota and like winter-rated all-season tires. Any guidance is welcomed!

Indeed. The Cc2 models in the XL series satisfy load specifications. They may imply that they do not satisfy the rolling efficiency standards or the poor tread wear ratings. However, they are positive aspects!

Tires represent a compromise. The characteristics that make them effective as economical EV tires detract from their performance in almost all other tire aspects.

My dealer presented me with an option between the Pirelli Scorpions and the Michelins. Both options were evaluated for my CX90; I opted for the Pirelli tires. The Mazda North Bay store suggested these options as appropriate OEM replacement tires, and Mazda Canada financed the purchase due to the rapid deterioration of the Falken OEM tires. I am uncertain as to why your dealer is providing contradictory information on the tires.

I reside in Northern Ontario and likely see comparable winter conditions as yours. I am now quite satisfied with the Pirelli tires.

Are you aware of the wear depth of your OEM tires at the time Mazda approved their replacement? I presume they were Toyo Open Country A50 tires. I anticipate discussing tire replacement with my dealer, since my tires seem to need imminent replacement. The odometer reads around 45,000 km, and I utilise winter tires for a duration of six months. I have not yet had the opportunity to test the tread depth.

I have exceeded 32,000 miles. My existing tires are on the verge of replacement; but, with winter approaching, I want to replace them now. We travel extensively between home and several locations around the Midwest, making the time seem justifiable.

I selected the Pirellis. The commentary in this discussion was really beneficial. I saved more than $400 and believe I acquired an excellent tyre. Further updates will follow when I assess their performance.

I transitioned to the Pirelli WeatherActive Scorpions 8,000 miles ago; I previously had a PHEV PP. Appreciated the fresh tires. Disliked the Falkens, almost exhausted after 12,000 km. I was so impressed that when I purchased my new CX-90 Turbo S PP this week, I instructed them to install Pirelli tires on my new car and transfer the tires from the new vehicle to my trade-in. I am certain that my Pirelli tires, which have 8,000 miles on them, will surpass the longevity of the new OEM tires on my Turbo S. Although the new vehicle is equipped with Toyo tires instead of the inferior Falkens, I still like my Scorpions far more.

I agree that the Michelin CC2s would be a commendable selection.

I had Falken tires that were changed after less than 30 km of use. I am uncertain of the tread wear depth, however the wear bars were clearly visible. I have around the same km as you, and I too run throughout the winter. My Mazda dealer informed me that Mazda Canada approved new tires for another owner as well. You should request your dealer to consult Mazda Canada for warranty consideration, since they are cognisant of this issue and are amenable to assistance.
