VVC-Geeza
On Tuesday night at around 8 o'clock, my Porsche alarm was activated. Upon looking out of the window, I saw that the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the bonnet was not well secured.I raised it, and the battery seemed to be on fire.Contacted the fire department, who successfully contained the situation upon arrival. However, all wiring has melted, the plastic components are incinerated, the bonnet is fractured, the windscreen is damaged, and there is water in the engine compartment. I am awaiting confirmation on whether it is repairable or a total loss; I suspect it will be deemed a total loss, given it is a 2000 Boxster. I will provide more information when available. Black_raven
I am very certain that will be a write-off. The expense of replacing the wire loom will be exorbitant. It is lamentable when a fine automobile of that vintage is sent to the great beyond. It may possess significant value in components, if their quality is assured. It may be prudent to negotiate a bargain and retain the salvage, provided you have the capacity to dismantle it.
trikey
I regret to learn about your circumstances. I concur, they will very definitely make the call. Occasionally, one may negotiate a transaction and repurchase it, either via partial sales or as a project. Be sure to decline their first offer and likely the subsequent one as well. They seldom provide their optimal pricing initially. It is prudent to gather preliminary information by researching the cost of purchasing a comparable vehicle. They will never provide you with the retail price; thus, obtaining an equivalent replacement will always incur more costs over time. I empathise with you; I can imagine my feelings if it were my RCZ. 😩
markjay
I regret to learn that you may have lost a beautiful automobile. If they do not fund the repairs, like @Black_raven suggests, it may be valuable for parts for others. I remember that both Mike Brewer and, if I am not mistaken, Tim Shaw from those respective programs used an established firm specialising in wiring looms to address the needs of most automobiles. I am unable to remember the name of the firm.
colinallcars
I am very disheartened for you. As you said, it would likely be a write-off due to their unexpectedly low worth. This vehicle is very undervalued; I traded my 3.2s a few years ago and still regret it. The one consolation is that you may now engage in some numerical reasoning and get a 996. I hope you have a favourable outcome with your insurance; but, we are all aware of their tendencies. Inform us of your progress.

paulh2602601
Indeed, that is profoundly distressing news, and it likely came as a surprise. Our 'special' vehicles are really integral to the family. I wish for a favourable conclusion for you.
mrnobady
It is disheartening to read this; it is unfortunate when a vehicle of such calibre is subject to the caprices of insurance companies. I am sceptical about the realism of their cash promise. Do you own GAP insurance for it?
VVC-Geeza
No, I am afraid not; I will wait to see what they propose.
KOOLCAR
Unfavourable news, radish. If deemed a loss, it is hoped that a substantial settlement would be provided.
