paulh2602601
My first car is a 2017 Certified Pre-Owned Audi Q7, and I love it! Unfortunately, the automobile has a strong odor of stale cigarettes. After sleeping in it for the first night, the new car smells like the most putrid ashtray imaginable, despite the dealer's assurances that an ozone machine had been used to make it smell better the day before we picked it up. Can cigarette smoke be completely removed from a vehicle? Given that it was a lease turn-in, the odometer probably reads 35,000 miles. EnchantedScribe
Do you own a bottle of Fabreeze? A Bounce dryer sheet will be placed beneath each chair.

Starcar2022
Although using an ozone machine can aid with odor removal, a thorough cleaning is also recommended. Professional detail shops in the area should be contacted. I recommend looking for evaluations on Google with images.
Needsnewtyres2
Only by eliminating the original smell can ozone be effective. The carpets, headliners, seats, dashboard, and sometimes even the cabin air filter may need to be thoroughly cleaned. It will be much more effective to use ozone, febreeze, dryer sheets, baking soda, or vinegar (put a few cups/bowls inside the room and leave them there for the night) once that has been accomplished. trikey
I agree with Needsnewtyres2. It will be quite challenging to eradicate all traces of this pollution.
motorman3
I agree with both of these statements; a thorough deep cleaning of the automobile is required if the odor is to be diminished. It will be necessary to employ steam cleaning and carpet extraction to thoroughly clean all surfaces. If you don't thoroughly clean the interior glass surfaces (including the sunroof), the odor will return when you leave the vehicle in the sun on a warm day. The odor may never be completely gone, but it may certainly be mitigated.
nimbuye5
A couple of open cans of baking soda would help. Make sure the automobile is toasty warm by keeping the windows up and the doors shut. After three consecutive days doing this on an MDX, the odor was mostly gone.
KOOLCAR
In case the issue still exists this long after OP, or if you just chance to stumble across this: Ozone generators are a remarkable invention. However, there is a catch: ozone is thought to hasten the deterioration of rubber. My cousin handed me his 2007 Impala, which is in fairly bad shape. It smelled bad in a strange way, like greasy fast food mixed with mold. I got this one and used it for many hours while parked in the blazing sun with the air conditioning on recirc, then let it sit in the garage overnight; the vehicle now smells brand new whether it has been exposed to the sun or the rain. DenishP4
Do you know how to clean the air vents? If the car's previous owner was a smoker, the vents will almost certainly contain nicotine residue.
Rudy7831
Recently acquired. I appreciate the suggestion. The previous owner used an air freshener, and now there's a pleasant scent that won't go away. My wife is very sensitive to odors and suffers from severe allergies; as a result, we must travel in our Forester on any trip longer than twenty miles. Smells Begone, which doesn't have any added smell, does assist a little. If not, I hope this helps.
blueWING007
using thread Believe it or not, they really do the job. However, I haven't tried it out for removing the smell of cigarettes. The air is left smelling fresh and clean from the chlorine. Not that chlorine is very pleasant, but this fragrance is more like that of a cleaned environment before it fades away completely. If I were to clean one of these well, I would bring it indoors and leave the air conditioning fan on recirculation for quite some time. https://www.biocidesystems.com/produ...RoCUV0QAvD_BwE
Gianni682
Although this post is old, I have to ask: how could a vehicle that had previously belonged to a smoker pass the CPO inspection?
EtherealWanderer
Possibly a CPO, my Q8 had a distinct cigar aroma. Full ozone treatment and an inside detail by a reputed detailing firm were included in the price, which accounted for the odor. Certainly not ideal, but a lot better. migueldosantos77
Is the automobile still running well or do you need to make adjustments somewhere now?
NAVITEL
The previous owner of my Avant apparently dumped handfuls of dog hair beneath the dashboard without my knowledge. I took off the headliner and all the panels and cleaned them, but when it's hot and humid, I still smell like a dog. Do you have any clue what might be trapping this odor and how to eliminate it?
